Royal Beach, Mornington

Dive Number: 100
Location: Royal Beach, Mornington
Date: 30/09/10
Max Depth: 5.8m
Dive Time: 65mins
Temp: 11C
Visibility: 10m

Well I thought my 100th dive was as good a place as any to start this blog.

I met my buddy across the road from the Royal Hotel on the Esplanade in Mornington just to the south of Mornington Pier. The wind was a little stronger from the west than forecast and was causing a slight surface chop however the visibility looked fine, so we decided to give it a go.

We entered approx. halfway along the beach and it was rocky and quite difficult, but once past the rocks it was fine and we followed the reef around to the north. There is some life starting to come back now that the water is warming up. The sea grasses and weeds looked healthy and there was very little rubbish on the reef.

The Northern Pacific Sea Stars were in abundance, I hate just swimming over them and leave them there on the reef. Although they are noxious species, it is actually illegal for me to remove them from the water without a permit!

We exited at the northern end of the beach and recommend this point for entry and exit as the water is much deeper.

Here are a few pics from my buddy's Flickr page of me on my 100th dive.
