Mordi' reef

Dive Number: 104
Location: Mordialloc Pier
Date: 26/10/10
Max Depth: 3.4m
Dive Time: 1 hour
Temp: 15C
Visibility: 5m

Parking here is expensive at $3/hour between 8am-8pm or you have free parking out on Beach Road with a 2 hour limit.

We entered of the pier and headed for the small reef just to the north which can be seen clearly on the aerial picture. Except for the usual suspects (sea urchins, sea stars), there wasn't a lot of life about which was a little surprising. Although there were quite a few Northern Pacific sea stars about, fortunatley they were out numbered by the native ones. We did find several that had been dismembered by something.

Sea weeds were looking healthy and there was plenty of algae growing in closer to the pier which is not necessarily a good thing.

I was pleased to find a zigzag sea star and a velvet sea star (both native) on this dive. Total dive time was only an hour, it was cut short because of concerns for overstaying our parking time which is a shame because I would have liked to explore the pier while I was there.
